GASTRIC SLEEVE SURGERY

The gastric sleeve surgery consist in shrinking the size of the stomach, by removing a large portion of the stomach and leaving a sleeve “banana shaped” that connects the esophagus to the intestines. The surgery is made by laparoscopic via, making the procedure much easier, faster and painless.

REVISION SURGERY

Sometimes patients may not respond well to their first gastric procedure and it is necessary to apply a more restrictive gastric procedure. Revision surgery is the best option for patients who did not reach their optimal weight in their initial operation.

What are the main reasons why gastric revision surgery is necessary?

  • Experience significant weight regain after hitting their lower weight.
  • Stomach capacity increase making the stomach bigger and slower the weight loss process.
  • Anatomic failure.
  • Development of secondary complications.
  • Need for reversal.

As any surgery the the gastric revision surgery can carry risks just like your initial surgery. At Beauty and Light our first option is to avoid a second surgery if possible. Our surgical team may apply a personal diet or exercise program before moving forward with another procedure.

After diet and exercise problems are ruled out, our surgical team will want to check your stomach pouch size and the opening between your stomach and your small intestines. If either is too large (or has stretched), it may be the cause of your problems, and this will help our surgical team to determine what is the best procedure for you.
